Modern American Revolution?

The comment that I hear most often from Americans in favor of gun control legislation is that firearms are not needed today in the same way that our founding fathers needed firearms.  They say that Americans today would never be able to have a revolution and stand up against our government.  The argument is that the size and scope of our American government and military is such that this would be impossible.  Isn't this exactly what our founding fathers were trying to prevent?  When you examine our Constitution, it is obvious that our country was founded on a LIMITED federal government.  The men who fought for their independance over 200 years ago knew the folly of a government that did not fear the citizens it represented.  A well armed citizenry was necessary to ensure that an out of control government was held accountable for its actions.  Well armed citizens were also necessary in the event that they were needed to be "called up" in defense of our country.

I would argue that the supposition that Americans could never stage a revolution today is exactly the reason that America's firearm regulations should be less restrictive.  Our inability to defend ourselves from our own government is the greatest threat to our personal liberties.  We have a government that currently enacts laws without regard to the Constitution under the assumption that the Supreme Court will make the final determination.  While this is correct in theory, it is only valid if the Supreme Court is composed of members who strictly apply the Constitution and do not interpret the Constitution based on their personal ideals.  With possible Supreme Court nominations over the next four to eight years coming from the Obama administration, I am doubtful that new justices will follow the Constitution strictly.  I am more inclined to believe that they will look to international law for precidents when the Constitution does not fit their personal agendas.

Preventing the American people from being able to stand against a tyrannical government is the first step in removing the power from the people and placing it with the government.  I know that most Americans do not feel that we have fallen far enough into the abyss to speak of revolution, but the time may come.  When that time comes, I would like to have the choice to stand on the side of freedom rather than trampled under the boot of oppression.

H.R. 45

Well, here it is.

H.R. 45

This bill calls for full federal licensing and registration of firearms.  I do not believe that this bill, if passed, would be able to survive a challenge in the SCOTUS as it violates the 2nd and 10th amendments to the U.S. Constitution.

Registration is always the precursor to confiscation.

Socialist Global Warming Czar

I have long held that there was much more to the global climate scare than just a group of diligent scientists warning us of impending disaster। When it was found that worldwide temperatures were beginning to fall and that recent warming trends were most likely due to cyclical weather trends, global warming became global climate change। When a political group, and don't kid yourself they are a political group, continues to push an agenda despite contrary evidence there is always an ulterior motive. The motive is almost always power and/or money.

This article published in the Washington Times gives some insight:

Washington Times

Quote:

Until last week, Carol M. Browner, President-elect Barack Obama's pick as global warming czar, was listed as one of 14 leaders of a socialist group's Commission for a Sustainable World Society, which calls for "global governance" and says rich countries must shrink their economies to address climate change.

By Thursday, Mrs. Browner's name and biography had been removed from Socialist International's Web page, though a photo of her speaking June 30 to the group's congress in Greece was still available.
Socialist International, an umbrella group for many of the world's social democratic political parties such as Britain's Labor Party, says it supports socialism and is harshly critical of U.S. policies.
The group's Commission for a Sustainable World Society, the organization's action arm on climate change, says the developed world must reduce consumption and commit to binding and punitive limits on greenhouse gas emissions.
Mr. Obama, who has said action on climate change would be a priority in his administration, tapped Mrs. Browner last month to fill a new position as White House coordinator of climate and energy policies. The appointment does not need Senate confirmation.
Mr. Obama's transition team said Mrs. Browner's membership in the organization is not a problem and that it brings experience in U.S. policymaking to her new role.
"The Commission for a Sustainable World Society includes world leaders from a variety of political parties, including British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who succeeded Tony Blair, in serving as vice president of the convening organization," Obama transition spokesman Nick Shapiro said.
"Carol Browner was chosen to help the president-elect coordinate energy and climate policy because she understands that our efforts to create jobs, achieve energy security and combat climate change demand integration among different agencies; cooperation between federal, state and local governments; and partnership with the private sector," Mr. Shapiro said in an e-mail.
Mrs. Browner ran the Environmental Protection Agency under President Clinton. Until she was tapped for the Obama administration, she was on the board of directors for the National Audubon Society, the League of Conservation Voters, the Center for American Progress and former Vice President Al Gore's Alliance for Climate Protection.
Her name has been removed from the Gore organization's Web site list of directors, and the Audubon Society issued a press release about her departure from that organization.

It does not surprise me that Obama would pick a Socialist as his Global Warming Czar. It would take an impending disaster of global proportions to move the world closer to a world government. Much like the current economic crisis has led to record spending and opened the door for government take over of business in the USA, a global crisis could easily lead to increased power by the U.N. or other created entity.

Think it will never happen here?

Gun Control Legislation

Why is it that people like the Brady Campaign and anti-2nd Amendment legislators always push restrictive legislation, but give an exemption to law enforcement personel.  The contention is that banning things like semi-automatic rifles or handguns will make the world safer "for our children" because the bad guys won't have them anymore.  If the criminals have their guns banned then shouldn't law enforcement be able to use items like pepper spray and tazers?  There should be no need for lethal force.  The answer to this is because the bad guys will have guns no matter what restrictions are placed on them.   In fact, they love restrictive firearm legislation because honest Americans can no longer defend themselves.

This brings us to the next point.  If the legislators know that criminals will still have guns, why are the LEOs and people with enough money to hire professional security personell the only ones who would have the right and ability to defend themselves?  Is it because they are more responsible gun owners?  I think not.  In fact, a much higher percentage of Americans are shot accidentally by law enforcement than by law abiding citizens.  In just the past few months a man was accidentally shot and killed while handcuffed and lying on the ground in Oakland.  In Utah a police officer left his M4 rifle in someone's front yard and only retrieved it after the homeowner called to report it.  Does this sound like responsible gun ownership?

The primary role of law enforcement is to show up after a crime has taken place, gather evidence and track down the criminal.  If they arrive in time to aid the victim they will do so.  You know the old saying, "When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.".  I do not want to trust the safety of my family to whether or not a criminal will obey firearm regulations.

Our founding fathers gave us the Bill of Rights to protect us from our government and allow us to live with freedom.  We must protect these liberties with the same zeal that they showed or we will lose them forever.  While the right to bear arms may not appear to be the most important right that we have, without it all of our rights are in jeopardy.  An armed citizenry is able to stand against tyranny. An unarmed society is at the mercy of an elite establishment and whatever political party is in control.  When one party controls all three branches of government, as they come very close to doing in 2009, there are no checks and balances against a radical agenda.

The National Socialist German Workers' Party (Nazi) seemed like the saviors of Germany when they were elected to power.  Registering gun owners in Germany seemed like a great idea at the time.  I am sure that confiscating everyone's weapons seemed like a good idea "for the children" at the time.  "Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it."-George Santayana

Will we have the same drive and conviction as our founding fathers? Will we stand together or will we look the other way as our personal freedoms are slowly eroded?

Viva la Revolucion!

Liberals have always been good at protesting the government for their causes (gay rights, abortion, ant-war, etc.) Now they have gained control while the country was sleeping. Will we have the same drive and conviction when it comes to our causes? Our country was founded by men who stood together and said "No More!". Are there enough real men left that will stand for liberty?

The Republican politicians have betrayed us too many times. Peacefully correcting this country's course will require holding them accountable. Most politicians don't care about this country. They only care about re-election. It may be too late for a peaceful resolution. Men like Ron Paul who hold strictly to the Constitution are dismissed as a non-factor in elections. Incumbent Republicans are wimps and appeasers. We have to be a booming voice in their ears telling them "No More!". Let them know we are paying attention and will not go quietly.

A real million man march on Washington with torches and pitchforks would get their attention. If a peaceful revolution does not work, this country will not survive in its current form. The attack on the Second Ammendment is not the only abomination we are facing from our government that is worth fighting against, but without it we are all lost.
